LAUDE The Lady Elizabeth School Examination Results 2009

Year upon year the external examination results achieved by students at Laude The Lady Elizabeth School exceed the percentages gained by students in British schools.

However percentages can be misleading as they can mask the numerical scale of success. Similarly, to confine ones applause to the A Grade specialists often ignores a multitude of achievements lower down the pass grade spectrum. Here at Laude The Lady Elizabeth School, we offer an individual education in which students of all abilities are encouraged to achieve their full potential, some assisted in their academic development by our Learning Support service which is offered in either English or Spanish.

Mr Malcolm Thomas - Examinations Officer

Laude The Lady Elizabeth School entered 91 school candidates for one or more (I)GCSE examinations in the summer of 2009. These 91 candidates made 622 individual subject entries in 28 different syllabuses resulting in 121, A* passes, 134 A’s and a massive 543 entries achieving a grades between A* and C (87.3%).

Our 67 Year 11 candidates accounted for 586 of these subject entries. Over one fifth of entries in this category resulted in A* passes and 42.2% A* or A Grades with 515 or 87.9% achieving grades between A* and C.

In considering the magnitude of these achievements by students of Laude The Lady Elizabeth School, it is important to compare them with the National UK averages of: A*-A = 21.6%, A*-C = 67.1%. It is also important to consider the fact that a high percentage of LLES candidates sit their examinations in English, a language that is not their home tongue.

At GCE A2 level our 75 candidates made an overall subject entry of 170 in 19 different A level syllabuses. This entry resulted in 64 A grades (LLES 37.6% compared with 26.7% UK National average) and 140 between A-C (82.4%. UK average not available). In the very competitive market for entry into UK universities, all candidates have gained entry into their chosen UK University as have 14 candidates who favoured a Spanish University.

LLES has always encouraged Language entries in areas not covered by the school curriculum. In recent years we have arranged for candidates to sit GCSE and GCE A Level language examinations in Dutch (First and second Language), Italian and Chinese. This year seven candidates between years 10 and 13 passed IGCSE First Language Dutch and three candidates achieved A’s in either AS or A level Dutch. We will be recording our first entries for Russian Advanced level in summer 2010.

Staff and management of Laude The Lady Elizabeth School would like to congratulate all candidates on their superb achievements and to wish them every success in their futures.
