Music in the Junior School is a stimulating, practical subject giving a variety of opportunities for creativity, participation and skill development. The four key aspects are taught across all year groups. • Listening –developing listening skills to identify high, low, loud, quiet, fast, slow, identifying different types of sounds and music from different ages and cultures. • Singing – opportunities to sing and use their voices in different ways. • Playing – using percussion instruments and keyboards/tuned percussion in a controlled way. • Composing – creating their own music for a purpose, developing skills of discrimination and decision making and using musical notation, Extra -Curricular The Junior School has a successful choir of over 50 members who perform throughout the year.The Y3 Training Choir develops the skills of listening, concentration and memory training.The Peripatetic Music Teachers also offer a valuable service providing individual teaching to pupils in piano, guitar, violin, drums and woodwind. Pupils may also have the chance to play in the Musical Morning at the end of the summer term or be part of the Junior Band. |
