In Key Stage 3 the main focus of Art lessons is the encouragement and development of student’s creativity and technical ability. Pupils use a variety of techniques and materials which lead towards a growing sense of confidence in their artistic skills and improving their ability to record from direct observation and personal experience. During their studies students will make reference to a variety of art movements and cultures, which they will interpret and adapt in order to create their own visions based on conceptual thinking. Their control of techniques and materials will dramatically improve throughout this Key Stage! Year 7

Term 3 – Whilst studying the theme of Still Life, students enhance their ability to depict objects from their direct observation. Focus is placed upon depicting form and structure through the use of line. Year 8
Click Here to view our gallery Term 3 – Pupils study surrealist images and produce a surrealist Still Life by combining various elements to enhance their work. Year 9
Term 2 – Students will focus on the styles and techniques adopted by Rembrandt when they study the theme of Portraiture. Their use of light and tone will improve and further develop as they work on their Portraiture painting throughout the term. Term 3 – Jann Haworth and Peter Blake’s album cover for the Beatles, ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, is used as the basis for the study of Pop Artists. Students investigate this style of art and then produce a painting using the same styles and techniques. |

Term 1 – Students investigate the theme of ‘celebrations’ and look at the Mexican Day of the Dead and also the Chinese New Year to interpret the theme of dragons.
Term 2 – During Term 2 students are introduced to the style of Portraiture and examine the proportions in facial features. They investigate the use of different mark-making techniques. Pupils produce a painting based on the work of the art movement ‘Fauvism’.
Term 1 – During the autumn term, pupils look at the work of Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch, and in particular his painting titled ‘The Scream’. They develop their own interpretation of ‘The Scream’ adapting Munch’s original image using their own concepts and ideas.
Term 1 – Nouveau art is studied during the first term in Year 9. Using ‘The Wall’ as their theme students are required to design and paint a poster. They investigate the work of graffiti artists to create a background for the image.
